This is an interesting tutorial lesson by mrballeng using paperclips and round nose pliers. Instead of using paperclips, you can also use 20 gauge wire cut to length.
This is a great project for beginners and mrballeng shows the technique very clearly in this short, under 5 minute video.

If you’re just starting out with jewelry making, there are some basic techniques you’ll want to learn. One of the techniques is how to wire wrap a bead using a headpin. You can use these type of wire-wrapped beads for earrings, bracelets, necklaces, or anything you can think of. Also see our previous post Basic Wire Wrapping for similar written instructions.
Here are some examples of where you can use this type of wire wrap (photos compliments of MoonPixie.com).
One thing to keep in mind is that this wire wrap loop technique is usually used for thin wire, such as 22 gauge or smaller (22, 24, 26, 28, etc); sometimes 20 gauge. It is rarely used for heavier gauge wires because thicker gauges are strong enough that just a bent loop is often secure enough to hold its shape.
We all love free tutorials, so we searched YouTube for some of the best videos that teach this wire wrap technique for jewelry. We chose video tutorials which provide clear instruction as well as videos short in length, since that is our preference.

This video shows very clearly a similar but slightly different technique. The only downside to this video is there’s no sound or instruction, but the video is very clear. You just need to know that to start out, you need 22 gauge headpins, beads, round nose piers, needle nose pliers and cutters.
